About the Author

Jagtar Malhi was born in India, and has lived all his adult life in England. He served in the police service until his retirement; a job that he loved and at times loathed, but which allowed him to engage with a great diversity of human experience and explore a deeper understanding of life. He has always been a poet, writing and reciting poetry in his school and college days, and occasionally while doing his job. His love for trekking has taken him to the Himalayas, Andes, Africa and the mountains of Britain and Europe, and his poems reflect a composite personality of an explorer, love for life and nature and a diverse cultural experience.

Souls and Sunflowers

We are forever wandering souls

Seeking the nectar of love

Like silent cries of a withering rose

Hushed coos of the mourning dove

May the power of the universe

In the cosmic winds prevail

Clear the clouds of darkness

And reveal the coveted grail

The nature pours the nectar

In vessels willing to give

The sunflowers do know

To love, live, and let live

More bees they feed the nectar

More and more they thrive

And more honey is yielded

To fill another be-hive

With delight and open arms

They greet the nectar thieves

Until the last drop is stolen

And lost the petals and leaves

Every embrace of the thieves

The pollination booms

The sunflower lives on

In the core of thousand blooms

Wings of Love

Hey, lover, beware!

On the wings of love

Soaring up in the sky

The aerial display

Of your dancing heart

In the heavens so high

Lest the source of love

That fuels your flight

Should ever run dry

And desperate for landing

In desert never-ending

You seek passers-by

The wings of love

Belong to love that

You hold in your eye

A sight from another

A blessing and divine

Inspired through a sigh

Wings of love

Not for going solo, if

You happen to fly

And wings of love

Aren’t a featherbed

In which you do lie

Wings of love

Are in pairs of two

Invisible and shy

Wings of love

Hold you together

You laugh or cry

Wings of love

For the journey of life

In the wet or dry

Wrapping the moments

And sweet memories

Until you die

Beside Her

Stars in the sky

Shine brighter

When I am beside her

Air is soothing

Balmy and lighter

When I am beside her

Hungry for aroma

Roses want to bite her

When I am beside her
